Hwang Sun-hong travels to China to finalize his roster for the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The Asian Games Men’s National Team (U24), led by Hwang Sun-hong, will face the Chinese Asian Games Team in a friendly at Jinhua Stadium in Zhejiang Province, China, on Friday at 7 p.m. (KST).

They will then play a second friendly at the same venue on the 19th.

Hwang departed for China on Dec. 12.

A total of 28 players were initially announced for the trip to China, but two were dropped before departure.

Park Kyu-hyun (Dynamo Dresden) has been added to Jürgen Klinsmann’s A squad. He was selected as a replacement for Kwon Kyung-won (Gamba Osaka), who was ruled out during his club’s match.

Ahn Jae-jun (Bucheon) was left out of the roster due to injury.

The KFA did not name replacements for Park and Ahn as there was room in the existing roster.

The squad for the trip to China includes a number of players who are active in the K League, including Uhm Won-sang (Ulsan), Ko Young-joon (Pohang), Song Min-gyu (Jeonbuk), and Yang Hyun-joon (Gangwon).

A total of 23 players departed from 메이저놀이터 Korea, while Europeans Jung Woo-young (Freiburg), Kim Tae-hyun (Vegalta Sendai), and Oh Jae-hyuk (Jeonbuk) joined the team on the 13th.

The final roster for the Asian Games is 22. There are three wildcards (athletes aged 24 and over), so the competition is fierce.

The needle is even smaller depending on which position the wildcard is utilized in.

The Hangzhou Asian Games will kick off in September after being postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hwang will try to win his third consecutive Asian Games men’s soccer title, following Incheon 2014 and Jakarta-Palembang 2018. If he wins gold, the team will be eligible for military service.
